Fortnite Streamer ‘Formula’ Comes Under Fire for Advice Including, ‘Sell Your Bed’

Fortnite streamer Formula has some advice for those who want a career as a content creator.  In a recent tweet, he listed several things he believes those starting out should do.

That list has drawn quite a bit of fire thanks to the extremes it goes to.

“If you don’t have enough money for gaming equipment for streaming/yt do this: 1. sell your bed – buy $10 air mattress 2. stop eating out – only eat $1 ramen/chef boyardee 3. stop buying skins 4. buy the cheapest setup and keep saving for upgrades live like s— until you grow.”

The responses, especially to “sell your bed” and “only eat Ramen”, came in quickly.

Some users did chime in to suggest Formula had a point. They pointed out his list was not something everyone had to check off completely. Still, followers of the streamer continued pointing out how unhealthy that lifestyle is.

If you only ate ramen and chef boyardee for years, you'd be dead or at the very least have hearing and vision loss. This is legally questionable advice. Be cautious.

The rebuttals to his comments were enough he took to Twitter later with a video where he explained in more detail what he meant.

It’s clear Formula didn’t foresee the reaction to his advice. The good news is that he didn’t double down or get abusive when he was met with a negative reaction. At the same time, it’s clear the streamer wasn’t aware of how his very specific advice would be taken.

Dude you told people not to get a job because it takes away from content creation…but if they are already struggling why wouldn’t they get a job to become more stable prior to starting to stream more?

It’s not a particularly great look during a period of time when plenty of streamers are finding themselves in hot water. Formula didn’t do anything “wrong” per se.

But as one Twitter user pointed out, the original tweet appears to equate living in poverty with working hard. He did address the idea of also getting a job, though he didn’t think that was the way to go. The streamer pointed out getting a job takes away from creating and sharing content. While explaining several of his takes, Formula believes streaming needs to come first for anyone to get big.
