Introduced in Chapter 3 Season 3, Runaway Boulders are environmental items in Fortnite that spawn in various locations about Artemis Island. As their name implies, a Runaway Boulder is a giant rock that sits atop a mound of smaller stones. If dislodged, this massive boulder will follow the law of gravity, rolling from its gravel throne to the lowest point of any accessible slope. Runaway Boulders are currently part of a Week 2 Quest in Chapter 3 Season 3, tasking players to “Boost into a Runaway Boulder and dislodge it with a Baller.” Completing this quest will reward players generously with 15,000 XP.

As mentioned above, players can find Runaway Boulders in multiple unmarked locations on the Fortnite map. Some are located around Rave Cave, while others are near Reality Falls. Yet, before Fortnite fans can get to dislodging Runaway Boulders, they must first acquire a Baller. Ballers are single-seat Vehicles that roll to move and are perfect for the Vibin’ atmosphere of this chapter’s season. Unfortunately, they come in limited quantity, and they all spawn around Rave Cave, a hot spot for early-game combative action. Accordingly, players aiming to complete the “dislodge Runaway Boulders” in Fortnite will need to rush to Rave Cave and grab a Baller before other combatants can take them all.
The fastest way to complete the “Boost into a Runaway Boulder and dislodge it with a Baller” quest is by landing within the giant head of Cuddly Team Leader. Get into a Baller and ride out of the opening to the north. Drop carefully onto the dirt trail below and continue westward towards the slope. Near the treeline of pines, Fortnite players should notice an accessible Runaway Boulder sitting out in the open, ready for dislodgement. Use the Baller’s Grapple for positioning and Boost to slam into the rock. If this boulder has already been moved, head to the small peak east of the outer rail track surrounding Rave Cave. Another Runaway Boulder will be sitting atop the ridge.
Fortnite is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
