Sometimes you might go through situations where you can’t help but be petty. It’s understandable; I have done the same. However, there should be a limit to the level of petty you can reach. For example, you shouldn’t prevent a firetruck and a bus from moving for any reason. You shouldn’t even stop traffic. This wasn’t the case with one New York lady who gave the term petty a new meaning. After she wasn’t allowed on the bus, she stopped traffic by standing in front of it. She didn’t just stop the bus, but she also stopped the firetruck that was behind it. Not to mention that she didn’t seem to care since she had her headphones on and was drinking a smoothie too.
Since a lot of people criticized her, the woman had to explain herself. She shared in a video why she acted this way. According to her, she went to the bus stop after work and while she was waiting there with other people, the bus came by and decided to skip this stop. Since the light was red, the pedestrians headed to the bus door to get on it, but the driver was shaking his head and refused to allow her on. Not only that, but she also claimed that the driver was preventing people from getting off the bus. Her revenge? Standing in front of the bus so that all of them have to wait for the next bus that is coming in 10 minutes. She said, “Since you want to be petty, you know I can be petty, too.” Well, she certainly was.
People Reacting to the New York Lady
Most people were left amused by the fact that the bus marquee was displaying “Emergency” and “Call police.” One person wrote, “I like that the bus sign says ‘call police.’” Another one thought that the police wouldn’t have had a chance to go there since the woman was obstructing traffic. “But the police won’t be able to get in, because they’ll be stuck too,” they said. Others pointed out that the New York lady knew that her actions weren’t the most mature of reactions. “She knew she was being a jerk. She saw that person recording her and decided to leave,” someone wrote. Another person analyzed her moves as they said:
“That bit at the end felt very, ‘I did something stupid but I’m too proud to back down so I’ll act aloof while continuing, then make a big gesture of having proven my point and definitely won before I magnanimously withdraw’.”
While people started mocking her, some began to mention what deserves to happen to her. “She needs some jail time,” someone wrote. There was another Redditor who focused on how the petty lady was obstructing a firetruck as well. “Who knows if that fire truck was trying to get to a fire, people could be losing their lives because of her selfish behavior,” they wrote. Another agreed that she should face some consequences as they said, “I seriously hope she suffered some kind of legal consequences. Totally f**ked up to block a fire truck or any emergency vehicle.” While what the driver did wasn’t right, the woman should have been the bigger person and let it go. Instead, she decided to be incredibly petty and prevent a firetruck from reaching its destination, which is not the ideal response at all.
