After E3, Gamescom was one of the major gaming events that studios and publishers would show and promote their games. Due to the Covid-19, Gamescom has become an all-digital event for the past two years. German Games Industry Association (GAME) has announced on Thursday that Gamescom 2022 will be a hybrid event, in-person and online.
Gamescom 2022 is set to be held between August 24-28 on-site in Cologne, and gamers all over the world can enjoy the showcases online. Gamescom has become hybrid, while E3 won’t have any physical show this year, once again. The event will launch with Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 23. Over 30 titles were only shown on the Opening Night of Gamescom 2021. After the opening night, the event will be open for visitors, press, and content creators on August 24, ahead of four days of public access for ticket holders.
Apart from studios and publishers showcasing their games, there will be adding sections for cosplay, retro, and indie fans. Gamescom has always been a great place for indie game developers to show and promote their games.
What’s the new normal for Gamescom?
This year Gamescom will be more environmentally friendly with a new Gamescom Goes Green design. The show organizers said this design will turn the even to a “climate-neutral over the medium and long term through the reduction and avoidance of CO2 emissions and in the short term through carbon offset.”
Felix Falk, the GAME managing director, said in an official statement:
All Gamescom fans and partners have been waiting for this for two years: Gamescom is finally returning to the Cologne exhibition halls, and thus also the unique festival feeling we had all been missing so much.
This year we are combining the best of both worlds: our extensive digital program with the incomparable Gamescom experience on-site. In the process, Gamescom is also once again setting new standards in 2022, for example, in matters of sustainability: with our ‘Gamescom goes green’ initiative, we will make Gamescom a special and climate-friendly event together with visitors and exhibitors.
Gamescom 2022 will be held virtually and in-person between August 24-28 in Cologne, Germany.
