Today, GameStop announced a multi-year strategic partnership agreement with Microsoft. The partnership will bring consumers closer, but overall benefit the store associates. The new omnichannel customer access point for video game products will be the focus of the partnership. GameStop announced that this partnership will:
standardize the Company’s business operations on Microsoft’s cloud solutions and hardware products to deliver rich new digital experiences to customers, creating the “ultimate gaming destination” for gamers in its vision to be the premier omnichannel customer access point for video game products.”
GameStop’s New Presence Within Microsoft
Using Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Teams, GameStop will further enrich the communication between store associates. Microsoft Teams will allow store associates to ask questions, share insights, and overall provide better customer experience. GameStop has also expanded the Xbox product line, which will now offer customers Xbox All Access. George Sherman, the Chief Executive Officer, said the following:
This is an exciting day at GameStop as we announce the advancement of an important partnership that capitalizes on the power of our operating platform and significant market share in gaming to accelerate our digital transformation; drive incremental revenue streams; and over time, further monetize the digital world of gaming.”
What Does This Partnership Mean For You?
It seems there will be more accessibility for those that play on Xbox consoles. The partnership will give you easier access to the games you want. As we all have known, GameStop stores have been closing around the world. This partnership seems to be bringing exciting opportunities to GameStop stores. Perhaps there is a possibility for a gaming center with the chance to play games within the store. With this partnership, I am sure we will see events, pre-release games, and more connections within the gaming community. Microsoft will be now bringing, as GameStop states, “Power to the Player”.
