If you owned a Neo Geo in the ’90s, then you might be familiar with Ganryu, a hack and slash game set in Japan in the distant past. More than two decades later, the game is getting a sequel. Ganryu 2 will release on multiple platforms on April 22, 2022.
The release date for Ganryu 2 was revealed in a press release and an announcement on Steam earlier today. In today’s press release, publisher Just For Games also announced that Storybird Studio is developing the game.
Ganryu 2 is set in 17th century Japan. Players will control one of the original Ganryu protagonists, Miyamoto Musashi. The first Ganryu was a hack and slash game that tasked players with defeating the antagonist, Kojiro. According to today’s press release, Ganryu 2 is a continuation of the first game’s story:
“After his victory against Kojiro, Musashi decided to meditate and try his hand at art, in the north of Japan, in the province of Hokkaido. During one of his meditations, a spirit contacted him : “Miyamoto Musashi, our fight is not over, I am waiting for you to finish our fight once and for all! All of Japan will pay for your insult! I’m waiting for you Miyamoto Musashi!””
