Just today, Genshin Impact developer miHoYo announced that it would be releasing a native PS5 version of its free-to-play open-world action RPG sometime this spring. Aside from the next-gen PS5 version, miHoYo is currently working on a Nintendo Switch port of Genshin Impact. Unfortunately for Xbox owners, there is still no news regarding Xbox One or Xbox Series X release. But hey, at least it is a phone game in the first place. Most current smartphone models should be able to run it.
According to the press release (via Gematsu), the PS5 version will feature “higher image quality, performance, and further evolutions.” The next-gen update will include:
- 4K resolution support.
- Upgraded textures across every part of the game.
- And faster load times, which will allow players to enjoy a more seamless experience as they travel between the in-game environments.
miHoYo, president Forrest Liu also has a few things to say about the PS5 port of Genshin Impact. Don’t forget to watch the announcement trailer above as well to see a glimpse of how great the game will look on Sony’s latest console.
“The PlayStation 5 is an ideal platform to enhance the vast open world featuring in Genshin Impact, allowing the team to incorporate more thoughts and ideas into the game, both now and in the future. That’s why we’ve been working to bring the native PlayStation 5 version of the game to our players as soon as we could.”
Based on Sensor Tower’s data, Genshin Impact is already the world’s third highest-earning mobile title since its debut in September last year. As of March 2021, it has raked $874 million in players’ spending on PS4, PC, iOS, and Android. Still, it’s quite unfortunate timing for a big announcement like this, considering it’s already April 1st in some regions, particularly in Asian countries. Let’s hope it’s not a practical joke from the development team. Let us know what you think of this next-gen release in the comments below, and stay tuned for more Genshin Impact updates.
