Deadline is reporting today that Apple Studios will have Jon Watts direct an upcoming thriller starring George Clooney and Brad Pitt. Watts will also be writing this yet-to-be-named film. This comes on the heels of Apple Studios nearly running the table at this year’s Emmys by winning 7 Emmys including Oustanding Comedy Series and Lead Actor in a Comedy Series.
Not only will George Clooney and Brad Pitt star in it, but their production companies; Clooney and Watts’s Smokehouse Pictures and Pitt’s Plan B, will come along for the ride as both companies plan to produce the thriller. There were other companies in the running to pick this up, including Amazon, Netflix, Lionsgate, and Sony to name a few. Watts is coming off his Spider-Man trilogy for Marvel while Clooney is working with The Tender Bar with Ben Affleck and Amazon; as for Pitt, he just currently shooting for Damien Chazelle’s Babylon.
The Forbidden Apple
Apple Studios adds another high-profile film to their impressive slate of films. The highly anticipated Martin Scorsese thriller, Killers of the Flower Moon starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert DeNiro. The pair last worked together in the 1993 drama This Boy’s Life. Killers of the Flower Moon is something I got close to when I was an intern at the Illinois Film Office years ago, they were trying to see if shooting in Chicago would work out financially. Turns out it would not have so they ended up shooting the film in Oklahoma. On top of that, Apple Studios also have exclusives like the Antione Fuqua directed Emancipation which will be produced by the film’s star, Will Smith. And Raymond and Ray starring E squared; Ethan Hawke and Ewan McGregor.
