If you haven’t heard, things are starting to ramp up for a new DCEU project. The newest movie on deck is Blue Beetle, which focuses on Jaime Reyes and an extraterrestrial super suit. The character is very well-known in comics and TV. However, it is yet to have a movie adaptation. This will be the first DCEU movie with a Latino main character. Further, the majority of the cast and crew are Latino/Latina as well. Multiple new actors have been signed on over the last few weeks. Next to join the lineup is George Lopez, who will be playing the Blue Beetle’s Uncle Rudy in the DCEU film.
Blue Beetle Is A Favorite of the Teen Titans
Not everyone is aware of the Blue Beetle just yet. Any fans of Young Justice know that he plays an integral part in later seasons. His extraterrestrial scarab suit is expanded upon and used for Darkseid’s plan during season two. The Blue Beetle scarab is a sentient armor that fuses to his spine and gives him a multitude of powers. These include flight and several weapons that can morph from his suit. It can also communicate with him telepathically and help with enemy analysis. The kid is an alien arsenal ready to go. With his DCEU premiere, we’ll hopefully get an interesting narrative for one of our first Titans.
An Impressive Cast In Tow
Beyond George Lopez, the cast for Blue Beetle‘s DCEU premiere is pretty impressive. Xolo Mariduena of Cobra Kai is our lead, Jaime Reyes. Harvey Guillen (of What We Do In The Shadows) will play a supporting role, squashing hopes that he would be Reyes himself. There is also Bruna Marquezine and Belissa Escobedo (from American Horror Stories). It seems that these actors will all play Jaime’s direct family. This may be a similar set-up to the large family aspect of Shazam. Either way, a cast this star-studded is sure to produce some impressive moments.
Blue Beetle is currently set for release on August 18, 2023. Let’s hope the buzz keeps going strong.
