George Segal is an actor currently well-known for his role in ABC’s The Goldbergs. But he has starred in movies such as the original Fun with Dick and Jane and California Split. With so much going for him, some might wonder what exactly happened.
George Segal’s Cause of Death
With things going on right now, some might speculate COVID-19 could be responsible. But it was something else. According to Sonia, George Segal’s wife, the veteran actor passed from complications during bypass surgery. Such a surgery is typically used to help move blood around a blocked artery in the heart.
The Goldbergs tv show released a statement saying, “He was kind, sweet, beyond talented and funny. George was the true epitome of class, and he touched all of our lives so deeply.” Adam Goldberg, the show’s creator, also described the actor as a “kid at heart with a magical spark.” He also stated that George Segal was the perfect actor for the role of Pops.

The Goldbergs is the actor’s most recent work. But it isn’t the first time George Segal has been on television. His first appearance was as a magazine owner in the series Just Shoot Me! And his movie career began with King Rat (1965), where he played a money-grubbing POW. Thanks to that role, a former co-worker asked him to be part of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? It was a part first offered to Robert Redford, who turned it down.
George Segal said that watching The Gun for Hire at nine is what set his sights on acting. “He was this guy with a trench coat and a gun, and Veronica Lake was nuts about him. Something clicked in me that this was a job, and I wanted it.”
His memory will live on in his work. And in that way, he will always be around.
