Geralt of Rivia, the main protagonist from The Witcher series, is getting a crossover expansion in Capcom’s Monster Hunter: World. The collaboration between Capcom and CD Project Red was announced alongside a massive expansion coming next year.
For previous crossovers in Monster Hunter: World, character skins have been added such as Aloy from Horizon Zero Dawn and Mega Man, but Geralt will be a more robust crossover. Rather than just being a skin, Geralt will be a fully playable character with new moves and abilities unique to the character.
CD Projekt Red described Geralt’s appearance in Monster Hunter: World by saying that they will, “offer a unique gameplay experience blending RPG mechanics of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt with Monster Hunter: World’s game systems.” Geralt will use his “signature fighting style, seamlessly blending swordplay, combat magic, and an assortment of monster hunting equipment,” stated CD Projekt Red.
Monster Hunter: World players on consoles will be happy to know that the Geralt expansion will come as free DLC in early 2019. Geralt will eventually be made available on PC, but Capcom has yet to put a specific time frame on when to expect his appearance.
After a massive success at launch, Monster Hunter: World has attempted to keep the game fresh as a game as a service platform. With tons of smaller additions to the game, the first major expansion, Iceborn will launch next year providing a slew of new content, playable areas, and story to boot. Unfortunately, this expansion won’t drop until Fall 2019, making the wait even longer for players chomping at the bit for new content.
Fortunately, Geralt of Rivia will hopefully be able to make the wait feel shorter, giving Monster Hunter: World players something to look forward to in the meantime.
