Cities will be crumbled again by giant monsters as Variety reported that the Godzilla vs Kong sequel will be released in theaters on March 13th, 2024. This news was accompanied by the sequel of Dune getting delayed by a month.
Not much is known about the Godzilla vs Kong sequel. Plot details are kept under wraps for the next installment of the Warner Bros. and Legendary MonsterVerse. The film will see Adam Wingard (Blair Witch) return to helm the blockbuster. It will begin production later this year in Australia. The Guest‘s Dan Stevens will join for an unknown role. The Guest was directed by Wingard, making it the first time since 2014 that the actor and director will collaborate.
Warner Announces March 2024 Release of ‘Godzilla vs Kong’ Sequel
The previous film was released during the pandemic when movies were either shuttered or underperforming greatly at the box office; despite COVID-19 and being available on HBO Max, the battle between the two iconic monsters earned over $470 million globally. That success was enough to keep moving forward with the series of kaiju movies.
Since 2014, the universe has been built with Godzilla, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and Kong: Skull Island. Some stars from those films crossed over to see the two behemoths duke it out with Millie Bobby Brown and Kyle Chandler. No returning stars have been named for the next entry.
While the next film will be a Godzilla vs Kong sequel, the plot is unknown. Due to Godzilla winning and the two finding peace as they teamed up against Mechagodzilla, anything can happen for what’s to come next or how the two will be reunited as allies or enemies. With the established Hallow Earth and plenty of untouched monsters from the universe, there is plenty of room to expand the mythology while delivering explosive action.
