A huge death has hit the industry today; famed actor Ray Liotta, star of Goodfellas and Field of Dreams, has died at the age of 67. The actor appears to have died in his sleep in the Dominican Republic, where he was currently shooting the film, Dangerous Waters. Ray Liotta leaves behind his daughter Karsen and his fiancée Jacy Nittola.
Biography of the Goodfellas Star
Born on December 18, 1954, in Newark, New Jersey, actor Ray Liotta began his career with appearances in TV roles, namely a role in the soap opera Another World. Ray Liotta then moved into the world of film and was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor for the film Something Wild (1986).
Liotta got his big break in 1989 when the actor appeared in the highly acclaimed fantasy/drama Field of Dreams alongside Kevin Costner, portraying ‘Shoeless Joe Jackson.’ His performance in that film landed him the role that he became synonymous with, as Henry Hill in Martin Scorsese’s 1990 gangster film Goodfellas.
After quite a few years in the acting wilderness, the Goodfellas star began to have a career resurgence and appeared in Noah Baumbach’s Marriage Story in 2019, as well as The Sopranos prequel film The Many Saints of Newark in 2021.
The Goodfellas star was due to appear in Cocaine Bear, directed by Elizabeth Banks, and the Working Title film The Substance opposite Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley. But the famed actor will always be known for his turn as the blue-eyed and devilishly handsome Henry Hill, as he narrated the tales of his youth and the workings of organized crime.
Tributes have begun to pour out for the Goodfellas star, none more so than his co-star and on-screen wife in the gangster flick, Lorraine Bracco, who has revealed she is “utterly shattered” by the news of Ray Liotta’s death – one of the great actors of his generation.
