Users have now been ‘Googling themselves’ for 20 years; the search provider is celebrating its 20th Anniversary. Created on September 4, 1998, Google began life as a search engine created by Larry Page and Sergey Brin. The search engine and its creative company, has become a household name and a major influencer in modern technology.
To commemorate the internet giants anniversary, Google has released a special Doodle, which animates popular search terms throughout its 20 years. Searches include; “What is Google?” and “What will happen after Y2k?”, plus many others in various world languages.
The celebrations don’t end there; the company has launched a website titled 20years.withgoogle.com, ultimately dedicated to 20 years of notable search facts. Facts such as; “Trish Stratus was the 2nd most searched athlete from 2000 to 2003.”, “We searched for Flavor of Love in 2006 more than ever.” and “Pokemon Go was the 2nd most searched game of 2016 and 2017.”
Additionally, on Google‘s official blog, the company have presented a look into the history of Google Doodles. The company has highlighted 20 Doodles from the companies 20-year life. Highlights include; 2010 Pac-Man interactive Doodle and 2016 Animated paper cut-0ut Doodle.
Google has also hidden plenty of Easter Eggs inside their search engine to celebrate. For example, searching for the term “baby” will yield the suggestion “Did you mean bae?” and “art” will return the spelling suggestion of “gif”. These Easter Eggs demonstrate just how different the users of the Search Engine are today.
You can also take a Street View tour of the Google office in 1998; complete with Floppy Disks and whiteboards, writing on such whiteboards includes “Google or Google!”. You can approach a computer monitor with the original search engine being displayed. Who doesn’t feel nostalgic surrounded by all the white technology?
