Fans got to see Paul Reubens in costume for Gotham for the first time on Tuesday morning. Reubens is playing the Penguin’s father on the second season of Gotham; ironic, since he has played the same role before in Batman Returns.
Gotham‘s executive producer, Danny Cannon, posted two photos of Reubens on Twitter. The first photo (above) shows Reubens standing with his son, Oswald Cobblepot (played by Robin Lord Taylor). Not much can be discerned from the image – both men are dressed quite nicely and standing underneath an umbrella.
The second picture shows Reubens standing in sleepwear that looks old-fashioned, holding a candle. While the attire looks like it could be taken directly from a version of A Christmas Carol, this sort of fashion suits the show.

Since fans have still learned almost nothing about what part the elder Cobblepot will play in Gotham‘s plot, these two images were a welcome sight. However, with Reubens and his “son” certainly share an onscreen resemblance, and it is apparent that Reubens will have some sort of influence over the events to come. And since Oswald Cobblepot has already lost his mother in the episode “Mommy’s Little Monster,” it is nice that the show’s executives are giving him another parent to rely on.
Gotham returns on February 29.
