Grand Theft Auto V is rumored to be the title Epic Games has been teasing as its next free game for a week. The website Game Pressure claims sources have told them GTA V will be unlocked on Thursday, May 14.
The even better news is that the version of Grand Theft Auto V expected to release on the EGS on Thursday is billed as the Premium Edition. That means players who download the game will get a bit of extra content, and perhaps some free digital money to spend in Grand Theft Auto Online.
Fueling the rumors is the lengths Epic has gone to keep this week’s free title under wraps. Normally, once a free game is unlocked, the following week’s title is revealed as well. This time around, the store displayed a placeholder image with the caption “mystery game” and a countdown that will wind down on Thursday morning.
For those who love rumor-mongering, a comment on Twitter from industry insider Daniel Ahmad appeared to be confirmation we’re getting GTA V. After yet another insider known only as “Nibel” on Twitter posted the rumor, Ahmad responded in a tweet saying, “will be in 26 hours.”

This “confirmation” should be taken with a couple of massive grains of salt, however, as Ahmad is known jokingly spread these kinds of rumors in order to get a rise out of his social media followers.
Pre-cursor to Grand Theft Auto VI?
As the gaming world has moved ever closer to the release of next-generation consoles, rumors have ramped up about GTA VI. Geoff Keighley famously teased a very big reveal this week as part of his Summer Games Fest. It would make some sense for Epic to be handing out copies of Grand Theft Auto V as a kind of a marketing campaign for its successor.
The good news about rumors like this, is we’ll find out the truth one way or another in short order.
