Ladies and gentlemen, this article comes bringing some bad news, it might be best not to play Grand Theft Auto Online for a little bit. A prominent Grand Theft Auto insider warned players on PC today of a security issue…that can actually be scary for many players. For now, they suggested it might not be worth playing until Rockstar games have solved this issue further. However, if you play GTA on a console, you should be good, as long as it doesn’t run a PC as the Steam Deck would. This applies to PC players of Grand Theft Auto.
Here’s Why You Should Hold Off Playing GTA
Tez2 shared on Twitter that PC players are once again being targeted by hackers…and this time calling it extreme. He also warned that cheaters can add, remove, and/or modify your stats and corrupt your account, which could lead to it being deleted. It has been suggested to play with a firewall rule installed…or simply not play right now at all. “New extreme exploits have appeared, allowing cheaters to remotely add/remove/modify your stats and permanently corrupt your account, aka ban/delete,” said Tez2. “Avoid playing without a firewall rule or playing at all!”
The other day, I personally was playing Grand Theft Auto and had a run-in with a hacker while gaming with my best friend. I was okay…other than dying multiple times without the hacker player even being close to me. But my friend, on the other hand, they were targeted and couldn’t even get away from the hacker. Soon after dying multiple times, they got stuck in a cage and lost all their weapons.
There isn’t any information on how things got this bad, but this isn’t the first time a security issue like this has happened either. Rockstar Games has done many ban waves, but it just doesn’t seem to be getting rid of them all enough…or scaring them off, at least. It just has been the holiday season that left fewer workers on sight to work on these things to allow it not to happen, which is understandable but nevertheless frustrating.
For now, just be cautious playing Grand Theft Auto Online, consider getting a firewall, or don’t play much until Rockstar Games has an opportunity to fix this security issue. Hopefully, you haven’t had a similar run-in as others have, but hopefully, this problem will be under control soon.
