New with the Shroom and Doom update of Grounded is the ability to tame pets, such as the aphid or the weevil. While these cute and cuddly bugs won’t be able to help you fight off orb weavers or really do much of anything besides stick by your side, it is definitely worth your time to try and get one as a pet. Once they are yours you will be able to pet them, give them a home in a Pet House, and do things like give them a name of your choosing. Essentially, they will be your ultimate companion in the dangers of the backyard. Here’s how to get a pet in Grounded following the Shroom and Doom update.
Preparation For Catching Your Pet in Grounded
Before you even begin your search for the perfect aphid or weevil to bring home, you should be aware that you will need to construct a Grinder. This utility station allows you to break materials down into various Slurries which can be used for a variety of crafting projects. Once you have this tool, you can create the Plant Slurry necessary for the aphid and the Mushroom Slurry that the weevil craves.
To obtain the Grinder construction recipe, you will need to find your way to the end of the Haze Lab, which is located in the Haze biome in the southwest region of the backyard. Once you bring the BURG.L chip from the Haze Lab back to BURG.L, you will then be able to craft your grinder. This requires two crow feather pieces, two acorn shells, three flower petals, and five bombardier parts.
The Actual Taming Of Your Pet
Once you have crafted your grinder you are essentially ready to tame your pet.
If you are wanting an aphid as a pet, you will place one Plant Fiber in the grinder to obtain a Plant Slurry. Create two Plant Slurries and then find the aphid you’ve had your eye on and drop them next to it.
If you would prefer to tame a weevil then you will need to place a Mushroom Chunk into the grinder. This should provide you with eight Mushroom Slurries, only two of which you will need to tame the weevil. Follow the same steps as the aphid, dropping them by the weevil of your choice, and then it is yours!
Once you have obtained your pet of choice you should construct a Pet House to name, manage, and monitor your pets.
