Even after his passing, Stan Lee’s imagination continues to inspire comic writers and artists. While his Marvel works are often spoken of fondly, fans will remember that Stan “The Man” Lee also wrote stories for DC Comics at one point. Now, one of those creations has returned in the latest issue of Grant Morrison’s The Green Lantern.
The Green Lantern #10 shows Hal Jordan stretched thin. With the Anti-Man and The Qwa-Man wreaking havoc across the multiverse, Hal cannot defeat these menaces alone. As a result, a Multiversal Lantern Corps comes to his aid. Called the Guardians of the Multiverse, its members have come together to fight the threat, featuring alternate universe versions of the eponymous hero. For instance, Batman from the Elseworlds story Darkest Night is among their ranks. Tangent Green Lantern, a mystic woman who carries a Chinese lantern on a staff, and Stan Lee’s Lee Lewis also join the battle.
Green Lantern Len Lewis
Stan Lee reimagined many DC icons in the series Just Imagine. One such character was Green Lantern. However, Lee’s interpretation was based more on the original iteration rather than the modern-day space cop. Len Lewis was a man researching the legend of the Yggdrasil tree. Upon discovering the myth was real, he was shot and left for dead. Therefore, the spirit inside speaks to him. After informing Lewis of its history, the tree grants him the power of the Green Lantern. To see Lee’s work, in a DC comic no less, is a testament to how influential he was to the medium. All of his ideas continue to endure throughout the industry to this day.
The Green Lantern is nearing a close with issue #12. Meanwhile, readers can purchase the latest issue on the DC Comics site.
