The Gucci family has threatened legal action in a candid statement denouncing House of Gucci. Ridley Scott’s movie has gotten a lot of buzz and very mixed reviews. In a widely cited statement in Italian media, they accused Scott of not consulting the heirs of the fashion empire. In the Gucci family’s opinion, Scott made their family look like “hooligans”. Lady Gaga, Adam Driver, Jared Leto, and Al Pacino are just some of the cast of House of Gucci. Gaga plays Patrizia Reggiani in Ridley Scott’s movie. Reggiani was a socialite-turned criminal. She served 18 years in prison for hiring a hitman to kill her ex-husband Maurizio Gucci. The Gucci family took offense to Reggiani being portrayed “as a victim”. In their defense, the family proclaimed Gucci “as an inclusive company” that many women held executive positions in.
Gucci Family Threatens Legal Action, No Big Deal to Ridley Scott
House of Gucci has been making waves even before it wrapped up production. Patrizia Gucci ridiculed Ridley Scott for, “stealing the identity of a family to make a profit to increase the income of the Hollywood system.” In response, Ridley Scott brushed off the comments and referenced the family’s own murky morals. In addition, Patrizia Gucci has even said Al Pacino’s casting as her father made her family look “short, fat and ugly.” In short, House of Gucci did not have a great start or ending with the Gucci family. Critics have made fun of the fake Italian accents and the Gucci family has ridiculed everything else.
Only time will tell whether they go through with it or not. Despite the Gucci family’s disapproval of the movie, it has been doing well at the box office.
