CD Projekt Red has announced the date for the Gwent World Masters – March 14th-5th.
Gwent, which began as a mini-game inside the wildly successful The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt has become its own beast. Not only the subject of many memes, but it also became the primary combat system inside Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales, a spin-off title to the main trilogy. CD Projekt Red also released Gwent: The Witcher Card Game in 2016, an advanced version of the game we have seen in The Witcher 3.
This version of the game became an almost immediate success. Almost four years on, the game is still given regular updates and seasons and has gained a large eSports following. In 2018, CD Projekt Red announced Gwent Masters, “a brand new way to play the game,” which “invites gamers from around the world to compete for the title of the first-ever GWENT World Champion.”
Across the Masters, there have been several Gwent Challengers, eSports competitions pitting the best players against each other for a cash prize. The top players from the Challenger events, as well as the highest-scoring players, will attend the World Masters in March.
This series concludes with the Gwent World Masters, which gives players the chance to be the first-ever Gwent World Champion. On top of the title, a prize pool of $250,000 is up for grabs. The World Masters tournament will take place on the 14th and 15th of March 2020. The player line up is set to be announced soon.
Gwent Masters Season 2 began on the 9th of January, with the Season 2 World Masters planned for December 2o2o.
