Supergiant Games’ Hades is out of Steam Early Access and available for the Nintendo Switch starting today. From the development team that gave us Pyre, Transistor, and Bastion, Hades descends deep into the underworld of Greek lore. The game has been a massive success as Supergiant said 700,000 players downloaded the game when it was in Early Access. The rogue-like role-playing game originally entered Early Access in December of 2018. The Steam page lists the following description for the game:
Defy the god of the dead in the Greek mythology-inspired dungeon crawler, Hades. Thousands of story events and ability combinations makes each attempt to escape the Underworld unique. As the immortal Prince of the Underworld, you’ll wield the powers and mythic weapons of Olympus to break free from the clutches of the god of the dead himself, while growing stronger and unraveling more of the story with each unique escape attempt.”
According to Supergiant, Hades launch update features plenty of new additions and enhancements to the game. One of which includes the true ending of the story while others revolve around new events for the 30 fully voiced characters you meet in the game. Joining these are five new pieces of music, a weapon variant, an updated final boss fight, and more late-game unlockables. Supergiant is very excited about this release:
We are beyond excited to announce we have completed the Early Access development of our god-like rogue-like dungeon crawler, Hades, and officially launched v1.0 of the game!”
To go along with the release, the full soundtrack is available as well. I’m a big fan of separate soundtracks, as I believe all games should release with a physical or digital soundtrack. It’s fun to enjoy soundtracks even when you’re not playing. The Hades OST includes two and a half hours of music composed by audio director Darren Korb. The Steam news release for the announcement said the following:
After three years in development, the result is by far the biggest, most feature-rich game we’ve ever made. We hope it captures your imagination right away with its fast-paced action and detailed world, and keeps you discovering new events and possibilities for dozens or even hundreds of hours.”
It’s a really exciting day for Supergiant Games, and I hope you’re excited too. Will you be hopping in to try the full release of Hades? Let me know in the comments below!
