Are you a fan of the Halloween franchise but are too scared to see Halloween Kills in theaters? Then you’re in luck because Universal Pictures announced today that the highly anticipated sequel to the critically and commercially successful soft reboot from 2018, simply titled Halloween, will release on Peacock the same day as theaters!
Slashing onto Streaming
Although the NBCUniversal streaming service offers a handful of content for free with ads, Halloween Kills will become available to Peacock Premium subscribers at no extra cost. The service has an ad-supported tier for $4.99 per month and an ad-free tier for $9.99 per month.
Universal already tried their hand at simultaneous movie releases on Peacock earlier this summer with The Boss Baby: Family Business. The sequel to Dreamworks Animation’s The Boss Baby grossed $57 million in the states and $48 million overseas. While this new entry didn’t make quite as much as its predecessor, Universal still decided to replicate this tried-and-true release strategy for Halloween Kills.
The Anticipation is Frighteningly Real
Halloween Kills is the second entry in Blumhouse Productions’ new take on the horror franchise, which ignores all previous entries except the original Halloween from 1978. David Gordon Green returned to direct the film and co-write it with comedian Danny McBride.
This sequel picks up right where the 2018 film left off. Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis), her daughter Karen (Judy Green), and her granddaughter Allyson (Andi Matichak) manage to lock Micheal Myers in her secluded forest home and burn it to the ground. While the Strode matriarch recovers from her life-threatening injuries, the news gets out that Michael is still alive and continuing to unleash his murderous reign of terror on the people of Haddonfield, Illinois.
Halloween Kills premiered earlier this week at the 78th annual Venice Film Festival. The film divided critics with many praising its gory kills while also acknowledging that it doesn’t bring anything new to the table.
Fans will just have to wait and see when Halloween Kills hits theaters and Peacock on October 15.
