Critical Role is on a literal roll with the launch of their new studio. Now having more complete control over their channels on Twitch and YouTube, we’ve seen expanded content like nothing in the past. They’ve debuted a new website, a new merchandise store, a new Kickstarter for miniatures from the game, and now a new show has been announced as well. Handbooker Helper debuts next Wednesday, August 29th, at 10 am Pacific time. Launching on their YouTube channel, it will have new episodes every Wednesday.
Critical Role has been a strong force in this new age of Dungeons and Dragons. It’s no longer considered a weird and sacrilegious pastime done in a secret basement. Thanks in part to the simplified 5th edition of the game, D&D is gaining more popularity than ever. Perhaps because “nerd culture” is very mainstream now, with cosplay, comic cons, and blockbuster movies such as The Lord of the Rings. Perhaps because at this age, it’s nice to have a game you can play face to face with friends rather than on an electronic device. But it most definitely helped along thanks to Critical Role, a weekly live-streamed show that features popular voice actors playing this RPG.
Critical Role has been responsible for bringing many fans to Dungeons and Dragons. Handbooker Helper has a goal to help fans understand the game more. Each week a new roleplayer will break down information from the 5th edition Player’s Handbook. This will consist of how to play each Class, how Saving Throws work, understanding how to use Feats, and how to calculate what you add to Damage rolls. In can be daunting to learn, since the goal of D&D is for every player to have a unique experience. Handbooker Helper will surely open the door for a more easy understanding of this game.
You can watch the Handbooker Helper episodes as their aire on this YouTube Channel. Episodes of Critical Role are live every Thursday at 7 pm Pacific on Twitch, or afterward on their website critrole.com.
