For fans of thrillers, you may have noticed a melody that Florence Pugh hums in Don’t Worry Darling. In an interview with Variety, Olivia Wilde revealed that her boyfriend and co-star Harry Styles was the one who came up with it.
The director and actor asked everyone in the cast for input on the script as, to her, every “great actor” is a “screenwriter in the process.” When it came to what was written as the “trigger song,” Harry Styles called his girlfriend and director about this song. During this, he composed the tune on his piano in five minutes.
“I don’t know. I’m going to different writers to write it,” she said when he asked her about the melody. “Do you have anything in mind? And he said, ‘I’ll think about it.’ Five minutes later, he sent a demo from his piano, and it was what ended up in the film.”

Harry Styles gave insight into this five-minute process. While quick, he had quite a bit of thought on how the song would work for the film’s tone. To him, it was “dependent on the context.” In some scenes, it could be “creepy,” and in others, it could be “sweet.”
“I remember first playing it on the piano, and it had a sort of homemade nursery rhyme feel to it. Applied to different to the different moments in the film, I think it takes on a couple of different lives.”
The collaboration will mark the first time Harry Styles and Olivia Wilde’s personal relationship will crossover into their professional lives. Wilde directs, stars, and produces the upcoming thriller. It will mark a new path for both of them as they are not familiar with the genre. Wilde’s previous film was the coming-of-age comedy Booksmart. The pop artist-turned-actor was in Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk.
The upcoming film sees Harry Styles (Jack) and Florence Pugh (Alice) take their marriage into a small, experimental community. The seemingly perfect bubble soon bursts when someone goes missing. Soon, Alice discovers dark secrets that were below the surface. They will star with their director, Chris Pine, Gemma Chan (Eternals), Kate Berlant (A League of Their Own), Nick Kroll (Big Mouth), Timothy Simons (Veep), and Sydney Chandler (Pistol).
Don’t Worry Darling releases in theaters on September 23, and Harry Styles will also star in My Policeman on October 21.
