HBO Max Casts Clancy Brown in ‘The Penguin’ Series

HBO Max has cast Clancy Brown in The Penguin series, which is a spin-off of last year’s highly successful The Batman. According to Variety, Brown will portray Gotham City crime boss Salvatore Maroni who was referenced several times in The Batman. We’ve seen the character portrayed in the past by actors such as David Zayas in the Fox series Gotham and Eric Roberts in The Dark Knight. Brown will work alongside The Penguin series lead Colin Farell, who is reprising his role as Oswald Cobblepot from the movie. Other stars include Rhenzy Feliz, Michael Kelly, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Deirdre O’Connell, and Cristin Milioti. Milioti will be portraying Sofia Falcone, the daughter of Maroni’s rival crime boss Carmine Falcone.

Clancy Brown Returns to DC With HBO Max Series’ The Penguin

Known for playing villainous and authoritative roles, Clancy Brown is no stranger to the DC universe. He has voiced the villain Lex Luthor in several animated projects and video games. He also provides the voice of Mr. Krabbs in Spongebob Squarepants, Savage Opress in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Surtur in Thor: Ragnarok, and Dr. Neo Cortex in several Crash Bandicoot games from 1997 to 2003. Along with The Clone Wars, Brown has had several other roles in the Star Wars universe.

His live-action roles have included the sadistic Capt. Byron Hadley appeared in The Shawshank Redemption and, most recently, in Dexter: New Blood. Along with The Penguin series for HBO Max, he will soon appear as a High Table operative known as the Harbinger in John Wick: Chapter 4. He will also be part of the ensemble cast of the Lionsgate comedy Scrambled.

The Penguin series from HBO Max will consist of eight episodes, and it is said to take place immediately after the events of The Batman. Filming is currently taking place in New York City.
