Helena Bonham Carter isn’t usually super opinionated. However, in a recent interview with The Sunday Times Magazine, the celebrated actress shared a few options that some may find controversial. In the interview, Helena Bonham Carter spoke in support of J.K Rowling. As many fans will know, J.K. Rowling came under fire in 2020 for tweets that some deemed transphobic. Since then, the Harry Potter writer has continued to express her beliefs on Twitter, which has caused many transgender allies to speak out against J.K. Rowling. Among the most notable are some Harry Potter cast members, including Daniel Radcliff. In the interview, she said,
It’s horrendous, a load of bollocks. I think she has been hounded. It’s been taken to the extreme, the judgmentalism of people. She’s allowed her opinion, particularly if she’s suffered abuse. Everybody carries their own history of trauma and forms their opinions from that trauma and you have to respect where people come from and their pain. You don’t all have to agree on everything — that would be insane and boring. She’s not meaning it aggressively, she’s just saying something out of her own experience.
Helena Bonham Carter supporting J.K. Rowling has caused quite a stir on social media. This is partly true because the actress mostly speaks about her work and doesn’t let the world into her beliefs.
