If you’re looking for immersive World War shooters, games like Hell Let Loose are exactly the game you gravitate towards. The sheer immersion these can provide, with massive 50 vs 50 player battles is as intense as it is beautiful. While more mainstream audiences gravitate toward games like Battlefield V, this is the title for those who want a World War game that’s truly supported. Sorry for the subtle dig there, EA. Regardless, it’s about to get even better. Hell Let Loose recently released its eighth update, Red Ball Express, for free to all of its players. This update brings not only new content but also incredibly redefined systems to make it that much better.
One of the biggest of these key changes to Hell Let Loose is deeper logistics gameplay. That may sound confusing, but what that means is the addition of 12 player transport trucks and supply vehicles. These let troops be brought to the battlefield much faster, allowing for both faster combat and depth in strategy. There’s also an overhaul to the Hurtgen Forest map, allowing for more clearings to fire through and more varied terrain. Given this was one of the first maps from Early Access, the revamped map should feel much more up to date.
Joining these are some revamps to Hell Let Loose’s bullet penetration, unit designation, and explosions. Bullet penetration now has bullets reacting differently when hitting different surfaces. Now if you were to hit a thin piece of plywood, your bullet will fly right through. As for unit designation, officers are now able to choose what roles their squad members are tasked with. This should improve teamwork across the battles, allowing for a deeper and more realistic experience. And finally, explosions have been overhauled to allow for much more realism through sound and visual effects.
All in all, Hell Let Loose feels better and more immersive than it ever has before. If you plan to try the Red Ball Express update, be sure to let me know in the comments below. You can also read into these changes more in-depth through the update’s official Steam page.
