The test pilot for the Hello Neighbor cartoon premiered last Friday, and it has been viewed by over 10 million people already.
Hello Neighbor is a very popular franchise of the stealth horror genre, currently consisting of three games – Hello Neighbor (2017) – the original game, Hello Neighbor: Hide & Seek (2018) – prequel, Secret Neighbor (2019) – multiplayer spin-off – all of which have been downloaded over 30 million times.
The franchise -which was developed by Dynamic Pixels and published by tinyBuild- has also spawned a book series that recently sold 2 million copies; the upcoming animated series is written by the author of these books, Carly Anne West.
Animated by Animasia and published by tinyBUILD, a 6-minute concept video was aired on their YouTube channel last week to give fans all over the world a taste of what a full season might look like. The view count on the test pilot is now closing in on 11 million at the moment. Suffice to say it was a huge hit!
Titled ‘Breaking and Entering,’ the episode which aired on April 17, is centered around a group of kids led by Nicky who is breaking into their creepy Neighbor’s house to find their missing friends.
The indie publishers are hoping that this warm reception of the test episode from fans will spark interest among distribution networks, whether streaming platforms or traditional networks, to get a full season of the series made.
In a press release, speaking about expanding beyond the video game into books and now television, TinyBuild CEO Alex Nichiporchik said, “We strongly believe that building a strong franchise and expanding it to multiple mediums is the way to go in this oversaturated video game world. We are excited about doing this with more brands after Hello Neighbor.”
With the book series grossing over $16 million in addition to the game revenue, the animated series is poised to succeed.
