The Man of Steel is now playing the monster slayer of Rivia. Netflix announced Henry Cavill is playing Geralt of Rivia from the popular book turned video game series, The Witcher.
The Justice League and Superman actor posted the news to his Facebook page on September 4th, 2018. Netflix also posted the announcement to social media saying,

BIG NEWS: Henry Cavill will play Geralt in The Witcher, an epic, eight-episode fantasy series about monster hunters based on the best-selling book series!!”
Television Producer for the upcoming Witcher series, Lauren S. Hissrich, tweeted her confirmation of Cavill playing the white-haired protagonist, saying,
He was my first meeting. I didn’t have writers or scripts yet – just a greenlight and a lot of passion. That was four months ago, and I’ve never forgotten the passion he brought. He IS Geralt. He always has been. I’m so thrilled to welcome HENRY CAVILL to the #Witcher family.

Before fans could play as Geralt of Rivia, he rose to fame in a series of short stories by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski. Then came the widely famous video games, comic books, and more books. Geralt is known as a Witcher, one of the few remaining in the world. Witchers are traveling monster slayers for hire. At an early age, they go through a mutation and brutal training to hunt, fight, kill or help deadly beasts.
Page one of the pilot script for Netflix’s The Witcher was posted to IMDB, with the storyline reading,
Chronicles monster hunters who, with training and body modification, develop supernatural abilities to battle deadly beasts.”
The first book, The Last Wish, released in 1993 followed by the final book, Season of Storms in 2013. CD Projekt Red released the first Witcher game on October 26th, 2007. Assassin of Kings hit shelves in 2011, and the third installment. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt released for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in 2015. The game featured several free DLC content as well.
