After showing fans the official first look, actor Henry Cavill (Man of Steel) showed off the first look at his trusty steed in the upcoming Netflix series The Witcher. This reveal comes just before the series will get a panel at San Diego Comic-Con later this week.
Over on Instagram, Cavill, who plays Geralt of Rivia, writes, “The road to San Diego is long. The good news is, on her worst day Roach beats the company of Men, Elves, Gnomes and even Dwarves. She’s not always easy, but she knows more than most and cares enough to be the only kind of company worth enjoying.” The picture doesn’t show much, but it should help tide fans over until the event.
Roach is the horse Geralt rides during his adventures slaying monsters. Most fans will probably know the horse from The Witcher 3, where you ride Roach to explore the massive open world. The upcoming Netflix series is adapting the books written by Polish writer Andrezj Sapkowski, rather than CD Projekt Red’s video game trilogy. For instance, in the games, Geralt carries two swords with him at all times. But in the Witcher novels, he keeps his silver sword with Roach, which looks to be a part of the show.
The Witcher is set for a panel at the San Diego Comic-Con on July 19th at 2:15 pm in Hall H. Cavill, Anya Chalotra (who plays Yennifer), and Freya Allan (who plays Ciri), along with showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich will be in attendance. Nothing is confirmed, but there may be a chance at a release date for the highly-anticipated series.
In other Witcher news, the fan-favorite The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is going portable on the Nintendo Switch. The port is expected to come out later this year (maybe around the same time as the show?). For the portability experience, you’re giving up a lot of the visual fidelity on the console/PC version, but it’s hard to be mad about having a 200-hour RPG wherever you go.
