Billie Eilish Deletes Social Media Off PhoneÂ
Fans won’t be seeing Billie Eilish on social media anytime soon because Billie Eilish deleted social media off her phone.Â
The 21-year-old singer revealed why she did this during an appearance on the Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend podcast,
“I don’t look at it anymore,” she said of social media. “I’ve deleted it all off my phone.”
Billie noted that the drastic move was “such a huge deal” for her.
The Lovely singer said she grew up at a time when she could have a childhood outside of the internet. Aside from playing games on computers, she has time and space to do other things.Â
“And then when I became a preteen, there were iPhones, and then I got a little older and there was all of what [the internet] has become.”
Billie Eilish Got Stung By Social Media
Billie also said she was part of the inception of social media as we know it today. The Happier Than Ever singer said as an adolescent, she assumed internet users would support her.
The Ocean Eyes singer continued, saying she didn’t think anything changed even after stepping into the spotlight. The songwriter also said she thought things would continue as they always had until she started trending online.Â
“And slowly the videos I’m watching and the things I see on the internet are about me. I’m like, ‘Ew! Stinky! I don’t like that.'”
Billie gave an example, revealing she was with her boyfriend, Jesse Rutherford, when a video about her popped up online.
The speaker in the video called her a terrible person and gave reasons as to why they said so. To make matters worse, the person seemed convincing and well mentally. Â
Billie quipped that they make it seem like God told them for a fact that she is like that. Meanwhile, they don’t even know her.Â
The Bad Guy singer also noted that the other thing that “freaks” her out about the internet “is how gullible it makes you.”
She lamented that she believes everything she reads online even though she knows it may be untrue and stupid. She also referred to times when paparazzi would take photos of her somewhere and label it as something else.Â
The Grammy winner wondered why they bothered to do that, even if it was a small white lie. She shared that such instances made her realize that many of the things she read about growing up were lies.Â
Given Billie Eilish’s experience online, it is no surprise she deleted social media on her phone.Â
