Over the years, we have seen many weird games from Hideo Kojima. Japanese game developer’s latest superhero game idea was so similar to Amazon Prime Video’s TV series, The Boys, that the Hideo Kojima canceled it.
Hideo Kojima Shelved a Game Because It’s Too Similar to The Boys
Hideo Kojima wanted to make a video game where mortals face off against superheroes. At least, that’s what the Japanese game designer said, who gave up on his long-loved concept because The Boys was too similar. He reported the abandoned project on Twitter.
According to the latest tweets, he watched the series and initially stopped after three episodes, and now he’s seen the rest of the show. He remembered his project when he watched the first episodes. Nevertheless, looking back, Kojima doesn’t seem sad. Superheroes in the entertainment industry today are “mass-produced,” according to Kojima’s own words.
THE BOYS, which I quit after 3 episodes of season 1. I thought I’d watch the rest of the show. Actually, I watched a few episodes that were delivered at the time when I was about to start a project that I had been warming up for a long time,
And put it on hold because the concept was similar (different settings and tricks). A buddy (male/female) thing with a unique detective squad facing off against legendary heroes behind the scenes. I was thinking of Mads as the lead.
It’s unclear whether Kojima’s project would be a game or something else, such as a TV series or movie. As you might know, Kojima Productions opened a new studio in Los Angeles at the end of last year that focuses on film and TV.
The Boys debuted in 2019, so Kojima’s superhero game could be the first project after Death Stranding. However, Kojima notes that this game never existed, and also, he is working with Xbox on a Cloud-based game that was just confirmed at Xbox-Bethesda Showcase.
