Hideo Kojima. Many know him from his work on the Metal Gear series and recently Death Stranding. However, if you follow him on social media, you’ll notice there’s a lot more to him than that. He is arguably one of the most interesting and weirdest people on the internet today. It should come as no shock then, that he would win a Guinness World Record. At this point why not? Am I right? He didn’t just win one award, no that would be bordering on almost normal. Kojima won two very specific awards. One was for “most followers on Twitter as a video game director.” The other was for “most followers on Instagram for a video game director. Below is the video of Kojima receiving his awards.
Hideo Kojima, I’ll Take Those
Game creator Hideo Kojima (@HIDEO_KOJIMA_EN) is now a record holder for:

— Guinness World Records (@GWR) November 10, 2019
The awards stated, he has around 2.8 million followers on Twitter and 888 thousand followers on Instagram. Kojima is something of an enigma. The guy posts pictures of a long list of celebrities that he hangs out with. While some of us enjoy reading a good book or playing some games, he just hangs out with famous people instead. His Twitter states he’s made up of seventy percent movies. That’s a lie, he’s clearly made up of seventy percent A-List celebrity friendships. Grimes, Mads Mikkelsen, Kieffer Sutherland, Del Toro, Norman Reedus (obviously) and so many more. When does he find time to make games?

I suppose it shouldn’t be that much of a surprise. The man was even able to get Conan O’Brien in for a cameo in Death Stranding. Despite the language of the award pertaining only to video game directors, there is almost no denying Kojima’s next level popularity. He has the awards to prove it.
The question is, will those Guinness World Records have some shiny gaming awards hanging with then after next month? Or will Death Stranding be best known for how divisive it has become with the gaming community? We will see folks, we will see.
