Fans in numerous countries have been waiting patiently, and now that wait is nearly finished. Rave Master and Fairy Tail creator Hiro Mashima is almost ready to debut his new manga series in Weekly Shonen Magazine. A teaser from Kodansha’s website advertises “Japan… America… Europe… The world is waiting… Eleven months have passed since the finale of Fairy Tail. Now a new adventure awaits. On June 27, 2018 the new adventure by Hiro Mashima begins! What will it be about? It’s a secret for a little while longer…!” So we don’t get a synopsis or even a title, but we do have some preliminary artwork to ogle.
Despite Fairy Tail coming to a close, it seems the series isn’t history just yet. Hiro Mashima will be supervising a sequel as well as a spinoff to the beloved franchise. This should please fans who were left with too many unanswered questions after the finale, as it gives the author an opportunity to go back and tie things together. As for the anime, Fairy Tail‘s final season will air this fall. No exact date has been given yet, but we do know it will follow the final arcs of the manga, picking up after the defeat of Tartaros and disbandment of the Fairy Tail guild.
Here’s a quick compilation of everything known about Hiro Mashima’s new manga. It’s coming on June 27 in Weekly Shonen Magazine, featuring a new story and a new kind of fantasy, and Plue from Fairy Tail will make an appearance. That’s not much, as Kodansha is deliberately keeping the details under wraps for the big reveal. Plue’s presence doesn’t necessarily mean the series will share the same universe, of course, but you never know. Thankfully the wait is nearly over, and we’ll have our answers by the end of summer.
