Data mining is a tool typically used to analyze upcoming games, but it’s also something one can use to dig into already-released titles. Those who do this tend to show some secrets that never made it into the final product. As it turns out, that’s the case with Hogwarts Legacy. According to a YouTuber, Hogwarts Legacy was supposed to have a morality and reputation system. This would’ve been a great feature considering that player choice is almost non-existent in some parts, or it doesn’t affect the story too much. Yet, according to the developers, they scrapped it for a good reason.
Hogwarts Legacy’s Morality and Reputation System Was Scrapped To Give Players More Freedom
According to the design philosophy of Hogwarts Legacy and why the reputation and morality system didn’t make the cut, it was apparently because they wanted to offer more freedom to the player. It’s a rather vague answer that isn’t especially satisfactory. After all, as it stands, the main character of Hogwarts Legacy commits much murder throughout the game with little to no consequence. It doesn’t quite make sense, and I feel some sort of punishment system would have added more immersive.

Hogwarts Legacy Nintendo Switch Launch Delayed
Data mining shows Hogwarts Legacy’s morality and reputation system would have affected House Points. Killing would deduct many points while torturing others would deduct a different amount. This would’ve added more depth to the Unforgivable Curses and made every choice matter more. While it is nice to have freedom, people felt the game felt unfinished. Anyone who played it until the end says the game was overwhelming in some areas and with little substance. Yet, it is still the best Harry Potter-themed game out there, hands down.
If there’s ever a sequel for this title, which would be a great idea, I hope the developers add more systems. If not, a change in the formula is due, as the game felt more like a Ubisoft title after a while. In any case, it is a magical adventure that fans of the series and the RPG genre should try.
Hogwarts Legacy is available on PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
