Sony’s fan-favorite and critically-acclaimed game returns with Horizon: Forbidden West. As players enjoy all the game has to offer, there’s one non-story aspect that also delights fans: cosmetics. Our lovable and fearless Aloy is here, and so are the customization options concerning what she wears and the weapons she uses. One thing you can learn how to use in Horizon: Forbidden West is the face paint cosmetic to change Aloy’s looks.
How to Use Face Paints in Horizon: Forbidden West
As you play Horizon: Forbidden West, you notice the many ways to explore such a vast and open world. Because there’s much to do, you, of course, have the option of various weapons and armor at your disposal. This ensures you’re able to properly get through the many main missions and side missions the game has to offer and address the fights out in the wild.
Beyond that, are the cool cosmetic touches the game offers. This includes the face paints for Aloy in Horizon: Forbidden West. These aren’t just handed to you, though. You have to unlock them by completing missions and errands.
On the one hand, you’re in luck. You can earn some face paint early in Horizon: Forbidden West. One way is by finishing The Embassy, the fourth main mission in the game. Another way is to do the side mission Deep Trouble.
On the other hand, even though you unlock it early, you probably can’t use it just yet. Aloy doesn’t apply face paint herself. She needs an expert, so to speak. So, all you can do at this point is dive into Photo Mode and apply the face paint that way. Just know that when you leave Photo Mode, the paint will leave too.
If you want face paints to stay on in Horizon: Forbidden West, visit a Painter. They’re not hard to find on your map. They’re labeled with “Painter (Face Paints)” along with a tribal tattoo marker. The first, named Zokkah, is found at Scalding Spear. There’s another at Bulwark. Just keep an eye out for the marker on the map.
It’ll cost 10 Metal Shards to get Aloy’s face painted and a single Shard to remove it.
