Not all superhero actors use their fame and fortune as a superpower. In the case of Anthony Mackie in his new role as Captain America, he is using it to be a force of good. Working as a Marvel actor since The Winter Soldier, he has started to give back, as he discussed in an interview with Variety.
Previously, before becoming a superstar and being Captain America, Anthony Mackie worked at his father’s roofing business. Now, he is teaming up with roofing company GAF to help residents of his hometown of New Orleans fix their roofs that had been damaged by natural disasters.
“It was one of those things where I was looking for something to do and be a part of, looking for an opportunity to give back in whatever way I could. I also wanted something that I actually had an interest in.”
Anthony Mackie, like his Captain America role, is helping citizens
Becoming a major star in the biggest franchise has its perks. When it comes to giving back to his community, Anthony Mackie cites that being Captain America has helped in that effort. It has given him “the opportunity” to collaborate and be a part of campaigns to help residents of New Orleans. To him, playing the character is not “that valuable if you don’t do anything with it.”
Starting as Falcon and handed the shield at the end of Endgame, Anthony Mackie has quite the journey to become Captain America. So far, he has starred in five movies and had his own show with Sebastian Stan in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. He is currently slated to lead his own movie with Captain America: New World Order. The film will be directed by Julius Onah (The Cloverfield Paradox) and written by Malcolm Spellman (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier). He will be joined by The Falcon and the Winter Soldier stars Danny Ramirez and Carl Lumbly. Tim Blake Nelson (Watchmen) will reprise his role from The Incredible Hulk as Samuel Sterns. It will release in theaters on May 3, 2024.
