Syfy’s Chucky comes to its dramatic conclusion on November 30 in its finale episode, An Affair To Dismember. On November 23, Chucky left its restless fans on a cliffhanger in Twice the Grieving, Double the Loss with Junior joining Chucky as his apprentice after murdering his father and Devon coming face-to-face with Nica (possessed by Chucky). In the last few episodes, Chucky reintroduced their stand-out characters, Tiffany Valentine as Jennifer Tilly and Nica Pierce as Chucky.
Who is Nica Pierce?
Nica Pierce made her debut in Curse of Chucky (2013), wherein she was wheelchair-bound due to Charles Lee Ray stabbing her pregnant mother in the stomach. When a mysterious Good Guys doll arrives in the mail, Nica discovers it to be Chucky. She deduces that the package came from the evidence depository and researches any information surrounding Chucky. Eventually, she comes across information regarding the history between Chucky and Andy Barclay.
Charles Lee Ray is featured in a home video; Nica suspects that he is responsible for the brutal murders that have occurred. Later, Chucky confirms her suspicions. He informs her that he was a family friend and had murdered her father after falling in love with her mother. Furthermore, he kidnapped Sarah, who was pregnant with Nica at the time. When she called the police, Charles stuck a knife in Sarah’s womb. Charles Lee Ray’s attack inflicted permanent fetal damage that left Nica in a paraplegic state.
Shortly thereafter, Nica Pierce was charged with first-degree murder after incriminating evidence was found. She was declared mentally insane and admitted to a mental asylum.
In the 7th installment, Cult of Chucky (2017), Nica had been condemned to a mental asylum for four years. At that time, she had convinced herself that she was responsible for the murders and not Chucky. Her “progress” in taking “responsibility” for her crimes enabled her to be transferred to another institute. She was permitted alone time from the other patients. At the more humane facility, she met a fellow patient, Malcolm, with whom she started a sexual relationship.
How Did Nica and Tiffany Meet?
Nica has an initial encounter with Tiffany Valentine during a group therapy session. Tiffany is revealed to be the guardian of another group member, Alice. Afterward, Alice passes away under mysterious circumstances after being introduced to a Good Guys doll.
Nica Pierce attempts suicide but awakens from unconsciousness to find her wounds stitched. Upon reflection, Nica recalls that Valentine was the surname of Charles Lee Ray’s girlfriend. Finally, she puts the puzzle pieces together to confirm her sanity and prove Chucky’s existence.
When Nica is confronted by multiple Chucky dolls, she learns that Charles Lee Ray had found a voodoo spell online that allowed his soul to be divided. Subsequently, he gained the ability to possess multiple host bodies at once. Charles Lee Ray transfers some of his soul into Nica. In her honor, Chucky – using Nica’s body as a vessel – murders Dr. Foley, her sexual assaulter.
When the alarms sound and the institute goes into emergency lockdown, Nica (as Chucky) kisses Tiffany Valentine with a snowfall backdrop before escaping in a getaway car.
Who is Tiffany Valentine/Jennifer Tilly?
First appearing in Bride of Chucky (1998), Tiffany Valentine is the girlfriend of Charles Lee Ray, aka, The Lakeshore Strangler. At the beginning of Bride of Chucky, Tiffany bribes a cop to hand over Chucky’s doll remains. She rebuilds Chucky’s physical body and attempts to resurrect his soul using a book titled Voodoo for Dummies.
Tiffany’s lover, Damien, comes home and discovers Chucky to be alive. After Chucky’s resurrection, Tiffany performs a striptease; she taunts Damien, whom she tied to the bedposts, by saying that Chucky will murder anyone who even looks at her.
As a result, Chucky smothers Damien with a pillow, much to Tiffany’s gleeful delight. Following a heated argument concerning an engagement ring, Tiffany confines Chucky to a playpen and leaves to take a bath. Chucky, looking to teach her a lesson, electrocutes her by pushing the TV into the bathwater.
Chucky transfers her soul into a bride doll to show her what it feels like to be trapped in a doll body. Chucky explains his plan to transfer their souls into new human bodies using his voodoo amulet. In the final act, Tiffany gives birth to her genderfluid child, Glen/Glenda.
Seed of Chucky sees Tiffany (in doll form) plan to transfer her soul into Jennifer Tilly, a famous movie actress. During the abduction of the latter, Jennifer suffers injuries that admit her to the hospital. Tiffany drugs her and transfers her soul into Tilly’s body. Chucky diverts from their original plan, claiming that instead of transferring his soul into Jennifer Tilly’s limousine driver, Stan, he prefers to remain a doll. Mortified by this, Jennifer/Tiffany leaves with Glen/Glenda.
Tiffany Valentine (as Jennifer Tilly) features in a cameo role for Curse of Chucky and meets Nica Pierce in Cult of Chucky – as per the above-mentioned sequence of events.
How Nica Pierce and Jennifer Tilly Stole the Show
In Syfy’s Chucky, Nica and Jennifer make their triumphant returns. As the central stars of the horror franchise, it should come as little surprise that Nica and Jennifer steal the show in the television continuation as well. Following on from the narrative established by its predecessors in a more modernized setting, Chucky sees Tiffany (as Jennifer Tilly) interacting with Nica Pierce (as Chucky) in the latest three episodes.
Fans were thrilled to see the long-awaited return of two iconic characters, especially as they embody identical personalities to those soon before. For audiences that are joining the excitement of the Child’s Play franchise later than others, seeing Jennifer Tilly and Nica Pierce together would have been a surprising yet fascinating pairing.
In Syfy’s Chucky, Chucky and Tiffany have an on-again, off-again relationship. They have some feuds, but they deeply care for one another (in some demented sort of way), and watching Nica and Tiffany interact as lovers and enemies interchangeably is (at times) more interesting than the central plot itself.
Giving credit to Jennifer Tilly and Fiona Dourif’s performances, the on-screen chemistry between the two is electric, so much so that it can be easy to forget that the real Chucky is a doll and not Nica Pierce. As Syfy’s finale to Chucky draws near, fans eagerly await the ending to an eight-part extravaganza that promises more in store for both Jennifer Tilly and Nica Pierce. As the body count rises, audiences can only hope that neither of them meets their demise.
