Exfil or exfiltration is a military term in Warzone 2.0 DMZ that refers to combatants performing an extraction, during which they move to a specific point on the map where they are able to leave the match. Such a concept might need to be clarified for those only familiar with the Battle Royale mode of Warzone or Fortnite. The primary objective for these games’ central experience is to be the last surviving player or team in a match. On the other hand, DMZ is an experience more akin to Hunt: Showdown or Escape from Tarkov, games that involve entering a map, completing one or more objectives, and escaping before being killed.
Performing an Exfil in Warzone 2 DMZ
To Exfil in Warzone 2.0 DMZ, players must open their map and look for icons of a blue stick figure rushing through a doorway. These points of interest indicate an extraction spot where combatants can call in a helicopter to leave the match. However, extracting is more complex than a helicopter summoning and escaping.

How to Ping in Call of Duty: Warzone 2
Call of Duty content creator MrDalekJD has posted fantastic gameplay footage on YouTube, perfectly demonstrating how the events of an Exfil will occur in-game. After players arrive at an Exfil point in Warzone 2.0 DMZ and call in a chopper, the aircraft will take a minute or two to come and land. During this time, AI soldiers will come and attempt to prevent squads from leaving. Furthermore, a giant green smoke stack will be visible from kilometers away, potentially attracting hostile players to disrupt the extraction. Once the helicopter finally lands, users must enter the vehicle and wait 30 seconds before it takes off. Again, those who have boarded the chopper’s interior must defend their position for half a minute before they are able to successfully conclude their exfiltration.
Keep in mind that whatever loot or contraband that players possess exclusive to the DMZ will be lost if they fail to extract or survive an Exfil in Warzone 2.0. While this might sound punishing, the risk and engaging excitement of performing a daring escape against peril make DMZ such an enjoyable experience.
Warzone 2.0 is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
