Season of the Deep has gone live in Destiny 2, and with it comes a brand new feature—fishing!! Throughout the Season, Guardians will be able to gather bait by defeating enemies in certain activities to then fish at specific locations. That said, some players need clarification on how to do so correctly. With that in mind, it’s time to discuss how to fish in Destiny 2.
Destiny 2: How To Fish With a Fishing Tackle

To go fishing in Destiny 2, players will need to complete the opening quest from Season of the Deep, Descent, where they reunite with Deputy Commander Sloane to kick off the Season. When the mission is over, players can speak to Suraya Hawthorne at the Tower, who will then give them a quest and a Fishing Tackle.
Talk to Hawthorne, and she will then instruct you to go gather some bait for the fish. Bait can be obtained by completing various activities such as Strikes, Crucible, or Gambit, along with the new Seasonal activities Salvage and Deep Dive. They can also be earned by completing patrols or public events. Players should run a couple of these activities, as they will need fifteen bait in total for the remaining quest steps.

With the bait in hand, players can now go to a fishing pond located in the EDZ, as shown in the image above. When they arrive, they can walk up to the pond and hold the interact button to start fishing. An example would be to hold the X button for Xbox players. The player will then cast their rod and wait until something is caught.
Bungie has made it to where fishing will provide a proper incentive with good rewards for catching different rarities of fish. Like weapons, your catch can be identified as Uncommon, Rare, Legendary, or Exotic Fish. Higher-tier fish like Legendary or Exotic ones offer substantial rewards such as Seasonal weapons and armor, and even Exotic armor pieces in some cases.
After catching five fish in the EDZ, players can make their way to the next pond located in the Cistern on Nessus. From there, it’s rinse-and-repeat as before, where the player must catch five fish of any rarity to progress the quest. After five fish are caught on Nessus, the final fishing pond is located in Miasma on Savathun’s Throne World, and once again, players must catch five more fish to progress the quest.

Finally, players can then make their way to the Helm to deposit the fish they caught in the Aquarium section, where they will be rewarded with weapon and armor pieces based on the rarity of the fish captured.
