Pokémon GO is no stranger to exciting, time-limited events. The Festival of Colors is a recent event that began March 8, 2023, at 10 AM local time and concludes March 14, 2023, at 8 PM local time. Among the things to do is the Collection Challenge. Besides catching certain Pokémon, you also must evolve a Pokémon into Mothim. We will show you exactly what you need to do to get Mothim in Pokémon GO.
How to Get Mothim in Pokémon GO
With the latest Collection Challenge, Trainers are tasked to evolve a Pokémon to get Mothim. Mothim is known as a Bug/Flying-type Pokémon introduced back in the 4th Generation.
When it comes to Pokémon GO, Mothim is not available in the wild. So, the only way to get Mothim is to evolve Burmy. However, the catch is that you can only evolve a male Burmy into Mothim. Female Burmy will evolve into Wormadam.
It is easy enough to tell whether the Burmy you have in Pokémon GO is male or female before you try to evolve for Mothim. Bring up the Pokémon in your storage and look to the right of their name to note the symbol. Male points to the upper right while the female sign points downward. The image above should highlight the correct symbol to look for.

Thanks to the Festival of Colors, it is easy to get Burmy, so you can get your Mothim in Pokémon GO. There is an increase in sightings of all 3 types of Burmy in the wild: Plant Cloak, Sand Cloak, and Trash Cloak. If you don’t find one naturally in the wild, there is also a high chance of getting them as an encounter from completing Field Research tasks.
When you catch your male Burmy in Pokémon GO, it’s time to work toward evolving them into Mothim. The way to do so is to get 50 Burmy Candies. You can get more Burmy Candy by using them as your Buddy and walking around. Additionally, you can use Pinap Berries when you try to catch a Burmy to increase the Candy they will have.
Remember: male Burmy only if you want Mothim to complete the Collection Challenge.
Pokémon GO is available on iOS and Android.
