Silky sand is a bit tricky simply because you can’t extract it from the ground without a resource harvester, which you must build. How to Collect Silky Sand in Slime Rancher 2
To collect silky sand, you have to be able to use the resource collector. Like most tools and gadgets in Slime Rancher 2, the resource collector needs to be built. When you’re first starting out, the resource collector is one of the first gadgets you should build, as it proves to be useful time and time again. All you need to collect to craft this gadget is 450 Newbucks and 10 Cotton Plorts! These can be pretty easy to obtain as well. To get Cotton Plorts, you only need to feed cotton slimes. However, Newbucks can be obtained by selling Plots in the Plort Market. Take them back to your fabricator. You’ll have a Resource Collector to grab some silky sand in Slime Rancher 2 in no time.

There are quite a few different places that you can find silky sand. However, each of these places has one big thing in common. They all have sandy beaches, as silky sand can always be found near the shore of a beach. If you’re still in the early game stages, that’s awesome because it can easily be found in Ember Valley. Silky sand can be found coming out of tall brown spouts that litter the shores.
How to Use Silky Sand in Slime Rancher 2
Silky sand is a valuable resource because it can be used at the fabricator to craft a multitude of upgrades and unlocks! One of the more important recipes that call for silky sand is the Extra Tank upgrade.
Be sure to keep your eye out for silky sand in any area that you visit, and just to be safe, try to get your resource collector crafted as early as you can. Having this gadget and being able to collect silky sand can prove to be rather invaluable to you in Slime Rancher 2.
