There are a variety of moves in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet that can help you in battle. Some keep you on the offense, while others aggressively push defense. Then there are some that are a little trickier than that. Trick is one such move. With TM109, you can teach Trick to numerous companions in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Over a dozen Pokémon can learn it, in fact, and we’ll show you just how you can get it.
How to Get TM109 Trick in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet
Location One: Bottom || Location Two: Top
Trick is a Psychic-type move that can throw an opponent off in battle. In a trainer battle, it will temporarily switch whatever item the opponent Pokémon holds. In the wild, the switch is permanent.
Not all of our Psychic companions know the move or can learn it on their own. Instead, these Pokémon Scarlet and Violet companions must use TM109 to learn Trick.
An easy way to ensure you unlock the TM109 crafting recipe is to defeat Team Star’s Fighting Crew. This will instantly unlock the TM at any Pokémon Center.
You can also find it without the need to craft it out in the Overworld. TM109 Trick is known to spawn in these Pokémon Scarlet and Violet areas:
- Location One: West Province (Area One): On a tall cliff around windmills.
- Location Two: Cascarrafa: Northwestern area on top of a house.

Crafting TM109 Trick in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet
No matter the method you unlock access to TM109 with, you must gather the materials if you want to craft more of them for all compatible Pokémon.
Check out what you’ll need below:
- 5000 LP
- x3 Sableye Gem
- x3 Shuppet Scrap
- x3 Sinestea Chip
For Sableye Gems, find Sableye and battle them in these regions:
- Glaseado Mountain
- East Province (Areas Two, Three)
- North Province (Areas Two, Three)
- South Province (Area Six)
- West Province (Areas One-Three)
When it comes to Shuppet Scrap, you can take down some Shuppet or Banette. Search these areas, so you’re a step closer to TM109 Trick in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
- Glaseado Mountain
- East Province (Areas One-Three)
- South Province (Area Three, Six)
For Sinestea Chip. you can battle Sinestea found in both East Province (Area Three) and South Province (Area Six).
Armed with this knowledge, you can now set out to teach other Pokémon the value of Trick.
