Discord continues to gain popularity as a go-to instant messaging and voice app. For Xbox players not interested in the party chat feature on the console, you can use Discord instead. It can take a little time to get going, though. Even so, we’ll help you set up Discord on your Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One consoles so you can easily communicate with friends.
Set Up Discord for Xbox Series and One Consoles
Discord and Xbox team up to make speaking with friends more seamless than before. However, there are several steps to take first.
Before we get into the setup for Discord on Xbox consoles, we need to enable remote features. If you have yet to do so, check out the steps below:
- Turn on the console and open the guide via the Xbox button on the controller
- Go to “Profile & System”, “Settings”, and “Devices & Connections”
- Select “Remote Features” and choose the “Enable remote features” box
- Go to “Sleep Mode” and choose “Standby”
With that out of the way, we can begin the process of connecting Discord to Xbox so you can communicate with your friends.
Ensure you have a Discord account before trying to set it up with your Xbox. Another way to save time is to install the Xbox and Discord apps on your phone. These apps are available in the Google Play Store and the Apple Store.
Now, you can set up Discord with Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One in a few different ways. We’ll show you all the methods so you can go with the one you’re most comfortable with.
Set Up Discord on Website or App
You can connect your Discord and Xbox through either the official Discord website, desktop app, or mobile app. We’ve broken down how to set up Discord for Xbox in two ways below.
Website/Desktop App:
- Head to the website or launch the desktop app
- Select “User Settings” and choose “Connections”
- Choose the Xbox icon and follow the on-screen prompts
- Select “yes” when asked, “Let this app access your info?”
Mobile App:
- On your avatar, choose “Connections”
- Choose “Add”, “Add New Connection”, and select “Xbox”
- When you continue, sign in to your Microsoft account
- Select “Authorize”

Set Up Discord on Xbox Console or App
If you don’t want to take the Discord route, you can always take the Xbox journey. Either way, you will set up Discord on Xbox and soon quickly communicate with friends during games.
Xbox Series X/S or One Consoles:
- Launch the console and open the guide by pressing the Xbox button on the controller
- Go to “Profile & system”, “Settings”, “Account”, and choose “Linked social accounts”
- You’ll see a Discord title, and underneath it, choose “Link”
- Proceed with the on-screen instructions
Xbox Mobile App:
- On the home screen, choose the Discord tile
- Choose “Continue” and sign in to your Discord account
- Following that, sign into your Microsoft account
Join Discord Call on Xbox After Set Up
We’re finally set up and ready to tackle Discord and Xbox together. There are a few ways to handle this.
First, you can transfer a call to your Xbox from Discord.
On your computer, do the following:
- Join a voice channel and right-click on it to choose “Transfer Voice to Xbox”
- With a mobile device, scan the code
- On the screen, you’ll see a default console or the ability to “Change” to another console
- With your console chosen, “Transfer Audio”
You’ll get a notification on your Xbox console when the Discord audio is set up.
On your mobile device, follow the prompts below:
- Find and join a voice channel
- Choose “Try voice chat on console” and “Transfer to Xbox”
- Find your console and choose “Transfer Audio”
And that’s it! With the audio on your console, you don’t need to leave the apps open on your phone.
Next, you can join directly from your console by following these steps:
- Launch your console and select the Xbox button for the Guide
- Choose “Parties & Chats”, “Discord”
- Pick a server from the list, select from the “Voice Channels”, and join
Now you’re free to communicate as you wish with friends from Discord on your Xbox.
