With each update, Minecraft adds brand new interesting changes or features into the game, and of course, most players would want to play around with the latest update. As a server owner, you would then need to upgrade your server to match the latest release. To help with your endeavor, this time, we’re showing how you can update your Minecraft server to the upgraded version 1.19.
If you just need help upgrading your Minecraft client/game version instead of the server, please refer to our “How to Update to Version 1.19.1” guide. It contains steps for Pocket, Bedrock, and Java Edition.
Updating Minecraft Server to Version 1.19
- Open your Minecraft server directory.
- Backup (copy and paste them into another folder) these important files so you can restore them after updating and won’t need to reconfigure your server settings again:
- banned-ips.txt.
- banned-players.txt.
- ops.txt.
- server.properties.
- world folder.
- In case you’re using a script of batch file to help start Minecraft (Server_Start.bat, for example), backup that one as well.
- Delete all the files in the Minecraft server directory.
- Download the latest 1.19 server .jar or .exe files over at Minecraft.net or the third-party server files archive site mcversions.net.
- If you’re using mcversions.net, grab the one from the Stable Releases column.
- Rename the downloaded 1.19 .jar/.exe file to remove the version number from the end of the new server file.
- Example: “minecraft_server.1.8.jar” should be changed to “minecraft_server.jar”
- Double-click and run the new .jar/.exe file to create all the necessary files for the server to run properly.
- Once done, close the server window.
- Restore the backup files from Step 2 to your Minecraft server directory.
- Now open the eula.txt file.
- In the Notepad (or other text editor program) change the “eula=false” line to “eula=true”
- Save and exit the text editor.
- Your Minecraft server now should be updated to version 1.19.

Updating Minecraft Realms to Version 1.19
For Minecraft Realms, simply updating your game will update both your game client as well as your server. The default setting is for the game to update automatically. But you might’ve disabled this feature; if you have, here’s how you can manually update your Minecraft Realms:
- Start the Minecraft Launcher app.
- Look for the Installations tab in the top menu, and click it.
- Then select the New Installation option.
- Click on the Version Server option.
- Click on the Latest Release (1.19) option.
- Afterward, press the Create button in the bottom right corner of the window.
- Head back to the main menu of the Minecraft Launcher and the Play button.
- The update to Minecraft 1.19 should begin.
- Wait until the update is complete.
- Once done, your game and server should start on the 1.19 version. Check the running version of your Minecraft at the bottom left corner of the window when you start the game.
