Hugh Jackman joins Koala Man, an animated series from Hulu that is created and stars Michael Cusack (Smiling Friends). This update on the upcoming show was reported by Variety.
Ordered by the streaming platform last March, it follows Kevin (Cusack) and his not very secretive alter-ego Koala Man. He seeks out petty criminals as a passionate rule follower. In Koala Man, Hugh Jackman plays Big Greg, the most well-liked citizen of Dapto and the head of the Town Council. He was a former host of a fishing show called Fishing Big with Big Greg. Going from his celebrity life, he gains political power in the town, where he belittles the show’s hero while taking credit for the superhero’s accomplishments.
Hugh Jackman joins Koala Man, an upcoming Hulu animated series
For a series based in Australia, it is fitting that Hugh Jackman stars in Koala Man. He has become better known for American roles like Wolverine in the X-Men franchise, The Greatest Showman, The Prestige, Prisoners, and more. While known for live-action, his experience with voice acting has extended to Free Guy, Big Mouth, Human Resources, and an episode of The Simpsons.
Hugh Jackman in Koala Man and the creator will be joined by costar Nisrine Amine (Here Out West). Cusack will write with Dan Hernandez (Pokémon: Detective Pikachu) and Benji Samit (Pokémon: Detective Pikachu). The writers all executive produce with Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland. Hernandez and Smit will also act as the showrunners.
With the announcement of this new project, the actor will be kept busy. He will join Anthony Hopkins and Luara Dern in The Son later this year. He is rumored to star in the biopic The Good Spy. He is also set to star in the Matt Cook (Patriot’s Day) film Apostle Paul.
The upcoming Hulu animated series has no release date. It is currently in the works.
