Steven Levenson, Thomas Kail, and Danielle Sanchez-Witzel are some of the team heading the show Up Here. The Hulu musical romantic comedy series has an eight-episode order. It takes place in late 1999 and follows a couple on their journey of falling in love and learning more about themselves. Steven Levenson is a Tony Award-winning playwright and wrote the book turned-play Dear Evan Hansen. Thomas Kail has directed the Broadway shows Hamilton and In the Heights. Kail and Stevenson developed the FX limited series Fosse/Verdon. Danielle Sanchez-Witzel is a television writer and producer known for the shows New Girl, and My Name Is Earl. Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, who wrote the music for Frozen and Frozen 2, will write original songs for the Hulu musical romantic comedy series Up Here.
Sanchez-Witzel, Levenson, Kail, and More Could Make One Heck of a Musical Series
Thomas Kail not only directed Hamilton but also the Paramount Television program Grease: Live. Danielle Sanchez-Witzel, Thomas Kail, and Steven Levenson will executive produce the Hulu musical romantic series Up Here. 20th Television and Thomas Kail’s Old 320 Sycamore Productions will produce the show together. Also on the team are the Emmy, Grammy, and Oscar-winning writing duo Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez. Sanchez-Witzel has also worked on The Carmichael Show and George Lopez. At this point, she is a pro at being a showrunner and producer for television shows. Sanchez-Witzel was announced as the co-creator of the upcoming Netflix comedy series Survival of the Thickest. Steven Levenson most recently wrote the screenplay for the Netflix film Tick, Tick…Boom!. He won a Tony Award for his work on the Broadway play and movie Dear Evan Hansen. With Kail, Levenson, Sanchez-Witzel, Anderson-Lopez, and Lopez, the series Up Here definitely has critics’ attention.
Casting and production for the Hulu musical romantic comedy series are set to begin this summer in New York.
