As players expand and develop their empire in the new Civilization-esque strategy game, Humankind, increasing the number of governable cities becomes imperative for growth. Influence is a crucial resource needed to manage these cities. If a player’s city count exceeds their City Capacity, their Influence will decrease, resulting in negative instability in one’s kingdom. To avoid this, players will need to find ways to raise this capacity for growing their empire. Fortunately, there are several ways to establish multiple cities without losing Influence. Read on to learn how to increase the city cap in Humankind.
How to Increase the City Cap in Humankind
Increasing the city cap in Humankind is done through several methods. Players can raise the cap by naturally progressing to the Ancient Era or unlocking specific Technologies within the tech tree. In addition, choosing certain Civics during a game or adopting a particular Culture also increases the city cap.
The most likely way players will raise their City Capacity in Humankind is by researching specific Technologies. A total of seven Technologies can be achieved throughout several Eras, so players should expect this endeavor as a gradual process. Here’s a list of all the Technologies (and their corresponding Eras) that grant +1 City Capacity to one’s culture.
- Philosophy (Classical)
- Foreign Outposts (Classical)
- Theology (Medieval)
- Three-Masted Ship (Early Modern)
- Supply Lines (Early Modern)
- Mercantilism (Early Modern)
- Urban Planning (Industrial)
Civics are another helpful means for increasing the city cap in Humankind. Civics are events that occur every so often during a game, sometimes even randomly. Selecting the Small Council option, the Leadership Civic, or the Materials Procurement Civic will increase one’s City Capacity. Remember to consider each option carefully to choose what’s best for the civilization.
Finally, players can increase the city cap by adopting the culture of the Achaemenid Persians. Their Legacy Trait, Cyrus’ Shadow, provides a permanent passive boost to the City Capacity by +2. Keep in mind that embracing a specific culture is a more significant decision than accepting a bonus from a Civic or Technology. Players will want to make sure that their choice provides the most long-lasting benefits for their empire.
Humankind is currently available on PC and Google Stadia.
