After a nearly four-year-long hiatus, the popular shonen manga series Hunter x Hunter seems to finally be making an official return, with four new chapters currently in development by series creator Yoshihiro Togashi. Earlier today, a Tweet from Togashi himself was released on Tuesday, May 24, and posted a small update about the manga: a photograph of the corner of a manga page posited alongside a sentence that roughly translates to “4 more episodes for the time being.” It is not confirmed at this time when these chapters will release.

Togashi’s Return and Hunter x Hunter’s Hiatus
The Tweet from Togashi came our early in the morning on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, confirming the development of 4 new chapters for the creator’s hit manga series Hunter x Hunter, which as of November 2021 sold more than 79 million copies worldwide. The Tweet was confirmed to in fact be from Togashi’s Twitter account by One-Punch Man artist Yusuke Murata.
A post under the Tweet by Audrey “aitaikimochi” Lamsam also implied from Togashi’s tweet that he might intend to end the manga in the four chapters he’s working on, based on the characters he used. However, another Tweet by Nibel posted a few hours later clarifies that Togashi is likely finishing up an entire new volume for Hunter x Hunter manga, which may in fact be the last volume, so we can expect at least 10 or so chapters to complete it.
Yoshihiro Togashi began Hunter x Hunter in 1998, and it follows the story of a boy named is about a boy named Gon and his journey to become a Hunter. Hunters are essentially licensed super-citizens with access to private information and the privilege to hunt unique animals and persons of interest in various missions, and Gon’s guest trek is full of trials and tribulations as he journeys to find his father, Ging. Along the way, he meets Killua, the runaway heir of an assassin family; Kurapika, the last member of a murdered clan; and Leorio, a medical student.
The manga was adapted into the two anime series, the first running for 62 episodes from 1999 to 2001, and the second series, running from 2011 to 2014 for 148 episodes and is currently available on Netflix. The series has been on hiatus since November of 2018, following the release of chapter 390, which has not yet been released in a physical volume.
